For my Birthday we went west, way west Texas. Nearly to Mexico. Our first stop was the dog friendly hotel of
The Gage Hotel, clean and charming hotel. The casitas booked up early so we stayed in old the hotel with a communal bathroom. Perfect for a west Texas Wedding and reception (a couple from Nebraska was getting married there). Nice Putting course and garden walks available across the street. They had earplugs by the bed, but we never heard the train. Loose dogs and a goat running around town.
Excellent gourmet dinner was served to the family, and they love the White Buffalo Bar with the live music.
Unique Qualities: Views go on forever around the desert landscape. Inside of hotel felt like true west Texas culture. Television available in the library. Breakfast was provided (family style-around a big table). Houses, casitas, small affordable rooms to rent with beautiful landscape and pool, excellent bar, and four star level restaurant. Spa treatments and exercise center available.
When you stop in downtown Marfa, remember to find the
Food Shark van by the bookstore. At lunch time stop by picnic tables by the book store for some awesome greek food-the van will drive up. Casual and outdoors. Their Hummus is packed with taste and flavor, and fresh, quality food in a van for less than 10 dollars. (aka
COMIDA FUTURA, 120 North Highland Avenue (next to Iron Heart gym across from Hotel Paisano).
Family loved the Hummus and even brought some down to
Chianti Hot Springs where we played with (the now departed) Whalens, Bloodhound puppy. Sweet dog that will be sadly missed... We stayed at the El Presidente ("Elvis themed room at the time") with our own indoor tub.
